So how businesses expanding globally can help their employees become more effective in the intercultural language? If observed carefully, vast amounts of skills, expertise and knowledge goes unrecognised in a business due to language and cultural barriers. A lot of people in and around the UK make efforts to understand, speak and write English. On the other hand, native English speakers are making efforts to understand various other non-native speakers. In the world of business, everyone tries to get used to each other’s accents and accept that language mistakes are inevitably made. However, we usually get lost while interpreting it in our own language.
On various business events, native English speakers form the majority at international meetings. There have been instances when non-native speakers demolish the English language and native speakers have watched it patiently and appreciated their efforts. But does this make the native English speakers aware about the difficulties non-native speakers face and how it may affect their feelings? But their presentation is always smooth and exciting to look upon as they conduct a lot of research and put efforts to use the right words. They tend to use words that have a great impact, words that sell and markets their new product or service. Alternatively there are various non-native speakers that tend to have a great deal of knowledge but do not readily take part in the discussion due to a lack of vocabulary skills. Some of them even try to memorise certain English words their native English speakers use during a speech so that they are able to use it later on during the discussion. Meanwhile, they lose track of time in the entire discussion. What can both native and non-native English speakers do?
